Race 5
0f 15 / The CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals.
Joliet, IL. / June 08 -11 2006
Joliet,
IL. - June 08 -11 2006
A few of
the racetracks on the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle 15
stop tour are known to be quicker than others, and
these are the facilities the riders are hungry to
race at.
Add in a
forecast calling for cool and dry weather, and the
buzz is in the air about "career best elapsed times"
and "record setting speeds".
This was
the pre-race scenario for the CARQUEST Auto Parts
NHRA Nationals held in Joliet, Ill, just a few miles
outside the city of Chicago.
"Everyone knew it was going to be a fast weekend,
the trick was to have the right tune-up in the bike
during the fastest of the qualifying sessions" said
Treble.
The two
Friday sessions proved to be quick, with the
Lartigue / Treble bike turning in a pair of good
runs, 7.131 / 188.36 in the early session, then
improving to a 7.093 / 187.52 to land in the 8th
spot at the end of the day.
Despite
guarantees from the broadcast booth that the Friday
night would produce runs fast enough to add two new
members of the Mickey Thompson Pro Stock Motorcycle
6 Second Club, it would be the single Saturday
qualifying session the would be the quickest.
The
Lartigue / Treble bike improved once again to a
7.079 / 190.35 to move up one position into the No.
7 spot.
"The
problem with qualifying in the middle of the field
is that you race someone who has run nearly the same
ET's, and you end up with a serious heads-up race on
your hands in the first round of eliminations" said
Treble.
The
round one Sunday morning match-up with
Trim -
Tex Buell rider Ryan Schnitz was another in a series
of oh-so-close losses for the Treble team. Despite
having the second best reaction time of the 16
riders competing in round one, and the sixth fastest
ET, the
Lartigue
/ Treble bike reached the finish line second by .017
seconds.
"This
makes our losses in the 5 races total a combined
.071 seconds. It's tough out there right now," said
Treble. "I am not a guy who talks about good luck
and bad luck, so the answer for us is to stick with
what we are doing and try to qualify better in
Englishtown.
"The
Lartigue / Treble team now heads to
the next NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle event,
The K&N
Filters NHRA SuperNationals at Englishtown, NJ June 15 -18 2006.
