Englishtown, NJ. - June 15 -18 2006
Following the last event on the 15 race NHRA Pro
Stock Motorcycle tour, Craig Treble declared, “We
have a fast bike, we just need to qualify better
than we have been, and get a break on Sunday.”
At the
37th running of the K & N Filters Supernationals in
Englishtown, N.J., the Lartigue / Treble combination
put together a tune-up that produced a 7.027 /
192.11 mph run, a career best run and strong enough
to earn the No. 3 qualifying position...
“Harry
has had the bike fast right out of the trailer at
ever race this year,” said Treble. “In Englishtown,
we came out with a great pass that put us near the
top right away.”
After 4
qualifying sessions in which the bike ran in the
7,0’s on every pass, Englishtown was shaping up to
be the breakout race Lartigue and Treble have been
looking for.
But as
the earlier quote demanded, a bit of racing luck
would be needed to go rounds on Sunday.
“We went
into eliminations fairly confident in our tune-up,
and I had my reaction times right where I felt
comfortable,” said Treble.
A round
one pairing with constant rival and 3 time champion
Angelle Sampey was over quickly when Angelle left .a
tick too soon, turning on the red light by a scant
.001 seconds.
“I
actually thought things might be going my way,” said
Treble. “Our bike was slower than we expected, but
she red lit. It was just what we needed.”
Unfortunately, for the Lartigue / Treble team, that
would be the last of the racing luck to fall their
way in Englishtown.
A round
two pairing with Matt Guidera was a win on paper for
Treble, but the ESPN camera’s caught a finishline
shot showing Guidera’s Rocklin Motorsports Buell at
the stripe first.
After a
review by NHRA officials, Guidera was awarded the
win due to the video evidence, sending Treble to the
trailer with a timeslip showing him with a .001
second win.
Although
it is not the first, or most dramatic video reversal
at an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle event, it is the
first time the decision came before another round of
racing was run.
“Well it
goes without saying that it sucks’” said Treble. “We
came into the race with our total losses adding up
to .071 seconds, and we leave here with it going
backwards to .070. That’s a tough one to take.”
“It’s on
to St. Louis next week. We are simply planning on
sticking with what we have been doing, and then
looking to go 4 rounds on Sunday.”
