I had the opportunity to meet Craig at Pomona this past year, and also had the opportunity to visit with Craig at a local shop in our home town of Cedar Rapids Iowa during this off season. What a great guy and great competitor. Not only did he spend the time to talk with us, he helped us and our team out to win the national title in et motorcycle in Pomona. Team SMR didn't make a very good showing at St. Louis. Sponsors need to learn that a race team is at work when they are racing. You visit with the race team after the race or on Monday. Some sponsors mistake racing for a time to party. We all know how the SMR people can party but they need to keep it in Hot Springs. A team running for a championship needs to stay focused.

After several years of taking photos for many, many crew members and drivers, I have done pretty good maintaining a non partial attitude toward the pro stock bike teams. I will have to admit though, that Craig will always hold a special place in my heart. I am not just busy taking pictures. I watch a lot of drivers and how they interact with fans, young and old. What captures my heart is watching someone who truely cares about his fans and always makes the time to make them feel special. I am so proud of Craig's accomplishments but am most proud of him as a man. It takes one heck of a man to put aside himself and give so much to others. I don't believe I took the ONLY picture of Calvin smiling as Craig claims, but I bet I have the only picture of Craig doing his impression of a chipmunk after gulping down his bottle water!! Ha Ha! During a rain out in Maple Grove this year I got to meet and talk with Craig and his crew chief Calvin at the local restaurant and tavern. Craig and Calvin I don't know if you have heard but David Johnson was in a major accident involving his race car and trailor. He is fine but there was a loss to the trailor and and major damage to the race car. I am not sure what was the cause, as usual you hear stories but I wont say what I have heard other than he is fine and also dealing with a ill mother that is comming close to ending her time here on earth. Something you all need to know in racing there is a love to hate realationship when you are chasing the points and out to be number one. If I am not mistaken Craig has been wanting to do this PRO racing for a long time, as I can recall seeing him here in AZ racing his bracket bike and is one that you did not really want to run. Angell is just another racer and she can and has been beat and will be beat again. Just as any bracket or Pro racer knows you can not win them ALL.
